Ali’s post Dunn & Haimann’s defined control, as a term that can arouse negative connotations if it is not used properly, plays an important role in any organization. Anyone who participates in an organized (Dunn & Haimann’s). My manager in the radiology department where I work has an effective control in place to ensure that me and my coworkers can accomplish the assigned roles and responsibilities.My manager might do is control the personnel management. This involves identifying the staff necessary, assigning them tasks and responsibilities, and monitoring their performance.She may  use communication controls to ensure that all members of the radiology department are aware of relevant information and guidelines. By using effective controls, a manager can help us and ensure that all members of the radiology staff can meet expectations and deliver high-quality care.However, when there are no clear instructions from the manager the technologists  become frustrated with  lack of understanding of what is expected of us. In order to ensure that radiology is functioning smoothly, it is important for managers to have a good understanding of what they need to do in order to ensure that their employees are performing their duties successfully. Health Administration Press.  Erika’s post According to Dunn and Haimann, control is “the process of checking performance against standards”.  The word control can be taken as a negative word, however, Dunn states that it plays an important role in an organization.  A manager needs to have plans, policies, procedures, training, and supervision in place in order to maintain control.  Controls can help to regulate behavior.  The success of control is determined by what is being accomplished.  My current manager favors emails or written communication to control what the staff is responsible for.  For example, he just sent out an email to all staff discussing a training seminar we have coming up to learn a new ventilator we will be using.  He sends out updates every Friday letting the staff know if there is any new important information to help us do our jobs.  He updates policies online to help us do our jobs more efficiently and allow other departments aware of how we do our jobs.  He monitors the staffs performance by giving yearly evaluations to control their job requirements and making sure they are fulfilling them.  My manager, definitely uses many controls to keep the department very organized and well functioning.   References Dunn, R. Why is this so difficult to do? How would you behave in this type of a situation? John 4.Katelin’s post There are many limitations to budgeting as a supervisors aspect. According to Dunn, there are three major drawbacks to budgeting. It is time consuming, an expense in itself, and sometimes management performance is evaluated only in monetary terms. (Dunn, 2016). Budgeting can be time consuming and a supervisor must set aside a certain timeframe to work on a budget. Computers can be used to help generate reports that provide a supervisor with data on various different aspects of business. This helps to decrease time wasted working on a budget. Sometimes supervisors dedicate too much time to working on their budget and not using their time effectively. Doing so causes the hospital/organization money, paying them hourly to not get the job done. “The manager who is overly concerned about her evaluation based on budget performance may cut corners that negatively affect the quality of care or service.” (Dunn, 2016) Supervisors sometimes get wrapped up in the situation and try to make themselves look good. Which in turn creates a deficit somewhere else to make their budget better, in hopes to make themselves look better.  As a future healthcare leader I would definitely take advantage of having access to computer generated reports. I believe that budgeting is very important, however, needs to be done in a timely fashion. Utilizing technology in these days can assist with the decisions made for a departments budget.  This helps to show different scenarios, different time frames, inflation, and more. Yes, your budget and how you maintain the budget within your department is a reflection of how you are running it, however, costs should never be cut pertaining to patient care. I am all about safety and having the appropriate amount of staff, equipment, technology, and education is very important to me. Patient care should be number one. Flexibility is important as well, emergencies and unexpected situations come up and you may need to adjust your budget per situation.  Kate Dunn, R. (Dunn, 2022). For someone to create a budget, you have to pay them, use their time and possibly overtime if they have other jobs to continue doing, and make sure the budget is accurate. This job can be very stressful especially if the allotted time frame for the budget is a year, and your team is nowhere near the budget max for the year. Often times, budgets are based on incoming revenue, and this can change from year to year, also changing the budget, making it even more difficult or confusing for the person taking care of or drafting the budget.  When it comes to my turn as a health care leader, my goal for a budget would be a roll-over type. I would try to cut costs on items that are needed less than others and on items that can afford to be a little more cheaply made. As far as a roll-over style budget, I would like this type best because whatever is not used in one year can be pushed into the next if needed or if revenue is lower than years prior.  References Dunn, R. During the process, I was still not sure where the processes was taking me, it was a bunch of questions I was asked to answer. Now that I am done the process, I must admit I am unsure where this group of questions is taking me, but I am going to go with it and see what the end result is. I always felt that creativity is a process that you need a free mind, comfortable space, and no distractions to create. My view on creativity has not shifted, I just have more insight, Sir Ken Robinson’s belief that school kills creativity, I can relate, you are given 30 minutes a day to create a picture or write something a day. The rest of your time is spent learning about subjects that may or may not be useful in a career. I feel like even as an adult learner, you should be allowed to be creative, and be allowed to produce work from your soul. I also understood what Elizabeth Gilbert was saying that you may not always create a masterpiece, but as long as you continue to create you remain true to yourself and who you are. Allowing myself to let go and elaborate honestly on who I was, what I forgotten and what I have to let go of. During the activity, I tried to let my imagination wander but I couldn’t, I was way too distracted. This assignment made me realize that I am way too caught up in life, I couldn’t take a few minutes to imagine. I believe creativity belongs everywhere. It is important to appreciate art and culture. I watched this week’s “you’re on fire video” I found it very creative. I don’t have a big imagination to where I can think of meat singing. Creativity is very important in education because it helps open our minds to new things.      If you were a color, what color would you be? How to be patient 8.Cole’s post Hello Class, The creativity assignment I chose to attempt is the Creative Writing Ten Minute Spill by the admin of Graduate Essays. For the assignment, I had to use five words from these choices “cliff, needle, voice, whir, blackberry, cloud, mother, and lick. I also had to use a proverb in this assignment for the poem” (2022). The proverb I chose to rewrite is “The nail that sticks out gets hammered down”. The process was exciting and a much-needed break from the hustle and bustle of life. I viewed the activity as pointless and kind of dumb. While doing it I felt happier and more creative with which words to use and how to use them. After completing the activity, I feel kind of refreshed and less stressed. My initial view on creativity is that it is important but not the most important thing out there. While it still is not the most important it has gained importance in my life and is a good way to slow down and relax. I believe that creativity does belong in a course about adult learning. I thought at first it does not but after completing the assignment I learned it can be a healthy outlet for stress and anxiety. This assignment impacted me in a healthy way. I will be including time to be more creative in my future life. Especially with my personal mission so I do not lose focus on my goal.
