Term Paper Outline<\/p>\n

Background:<\/p>\n

You have
\nrecently been hired as part of annual class of trainees at a major
\nbrokerage firm, Mercy Securities Corp (a fictitious firm). After a few
\ndays of orientation, you begin its trainee \u201crotation\u201d through several
\ndepartments across the firm. The first unit you are assigned to is the
\n___(you pick what interests your)<\/u>__
\nDepartment where, as an initial project, you are asked to research and
\nstudy the processes and controls of that department. Your job is to
\nfully explain how that department works and what controls are or should
\nbe in place.<\/p>\n

Your manager
\nwants you to prepare a written report analyzing the chosen department.
\nIn addition, he asks you to give him an oral presentation of your
\nfindings and conclusions once you have completed your analysis.<\/p>\n

Selection of the Department:<\/p>\n

Each student
\nwill choose a department of interest from within a brokerage firm.
\nResearch will show dozens of potential departments. The students may
\nchoose any department that interests them.<\/p>\n

Format for Written Report:<\/p>\n

The written report should be organized in the following order:<\/p>\n

Section I: Executive Summary (1 page)<\/p>\n

Section II: Detailed Analysis (3 to 5 pages)<\/p>\n

Section III: Attached Addenda (bibliography, copy of financial statements, comparisons, charts, articles etc.)<\/p>\n

Proper identification of the processes within the researched department.<\/p>\n

Overall organization of the paper and presentation.<\/p>\n

Accurate calculations of chosen financial ratios.<\/p>\n

Strong support for the conclusions reached about relative importance of various processes.<\/p>\n

The
\nuse of multiple research sources to develop the content of your term
\npaper is expected. Information from electronic sources, books, journals,
\nnewspapers, business publications and corporations themselves, is
\nacceptable and should be included in the bibliography. <\/p>\n

\nTerm Project – Presentation<\/a>
\n<\/h3>\n

Create a powerpoint (preferred) or another presentation methodology
\nthat would be what you would use if you needed to present your paper to
\nthe class.<\/p>\n
