Over the past few years there has been a lot of negative attention surrounding criminal activity among professional athletes. I imagine that we have a lot to discuss regarding this topic; and we will do so (but, I want to give you a break from discussion boards, as your last few have been so lively and impressive). I want you to first read and understand the legal concepts behind crimes and torts (civil wrongs). While completing this weeks readings and watching the links and videos I have provided, I want you to think about the recent situations that have been highlighted in the news, such as: Ray Rice; Patrick Kane; Geno Smith; the shooting death of Will Smith; and even as recently as this morning with the death of Aaron Hernandez and his pending criminal cases.

FOR THIS WEEK

1) READ Chapters 3 and 4, Torts and Crimes. ATTACHED

2) Watch the NFL concussion video, provided byFrontline (it is long, over an hour, so allow time). Note the movie Concussion, might be an interesting watch in light of this material- that is, if you have not already seen it.

3 )Read/watch these additional links after you complete the reading.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/barbara-bruno/jonath…

http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/201…

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/league-of-denial/
