The goal of this discussion is to reflect on and discusses the issues related to fake news. <\/strong>This discussion board is meant to add on to our work in-class while allowing you the space to think about how these concepts, ideas, and theories apply to real world examples and experiences. <\/p>\n

In your initial post to this discussion board, you should do the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Find an example of what you consider to be a fake news story and post the link to it in your initial post.<\/li>\n
2. Under the link, answer the following questions:\n
   \n
   • What leads you to label it as “fake news”? That is, how do you know it is fake news?<\/li>\n
   • How do you see this example of fake news relating to our course discussions about:\n
     \n
     • Social media?<\/li>\n
     • The death of journalism?<\/li>\n
     • Echo chambers?<\/li>\n
     • Self-publishing?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

       Your initial post must contain references back to the course material (i.e. lectures, term sheets) to explain your answer. This reference should follow a proper citation format (e.g. APALinks to an external site.<\/span><\/span><\/a> or MLALinks to an external site.<\/span><\/span><\/a>). Initial posts should be at least 250 words, and should follow academic English writing guidelines (see this siteLinks to an external site.<\/span><\/span><\/a>for more information).<\/p>\n

       After your initial post, you should respond to two classmates in a way that adds to the discussion.<\/strong> Adding to the discussion means that you respond in a way that could allow the conversation to go off into a new direction. Try using these prompts to help structure your responses:<\/p>\n

       • Did you agree with your classmate, and how so?<\/li>\n
       • Did you disagree with your classmate, and how so?<\/li>\n
       • Do you have any questions for your classmate?<\/li>\n
       • Do you have any suggestions for your classmate?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

         Initial posts will be due by Friday at 11:59pm, and responses to classmates will be due that Sunday at 11:59pm.<\/p>\n
