Hello all, I hope this note finds you well! <\/p>\n
This
\nweek we are looking at an overview of Women in Theatre, women
\nplaywrights and the work that they and other female writers are now
\ndoing as we see ourselves in an age where the relationship between men
\nand women and how society views them have never been closer. However,
\nthere is still a gap that remains with the role and influence of women
\nin politics, religion, business and entertainment. The American view of
\nthe “Ideal Woman” has changed in the last 100 years and even more
\ndrastically in the last 40 years since the 1970’s when the voices of
\nwomen and the issues that directly affected them began to get heard in
\nstronger way. Remember that is it still less then 100 years since women
\nhave had the right to vote in America. Only since the 60’s that women
\nhave been allowed their own credit credits cards separate from their
\nhusbands just to name a few examples….. Times have changed and much of
\nthat is with the voices of woman writing about woman and the trials and
\nstruggles they face. We have seen from film to T.V. to the theatrical
\nstage a huge upsurge of female-centric storytelling. We also witness a
\ncontentious election for president where Hillary Clinton won the popular
\nvote by almost 3,000,000.00 votes. Huge strides have been made for
\nwomen and equality! Perhaps that glass cieling will finally be broken in
\n2020. <\/p>\n
I believe this is a fabulous development!!!!! <\/em><\/p>\n I Choose one female playwright from this small list and do further research on that playwright. <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n This is a very short list of some very important female playwrights over the last 100 years. <\/strong><\/p>\n (This is not a comprehensive list)<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n ______________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n Topics of discussion would be:<\/strong><\/p>\n The playwright\u2019s history and background.<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n How they came into being a playwright?<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n You The nature of the playwrights world What Awards, recognition or infamy that they may have received as a result of their work.<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n Would you like to watch a play by this playwright? Why or why not? \nrights politically, education, the “Glass Ceiling”, abortion rights,
\nhealth concerns, sexual harassment in the work place, the “War on Women”
\nand your opinions about how women are used as political opportunities.
\nAny feelings about Donald Trump and his P.O.V. about women in our
\nongoing conversation about the equality of woman in our society? <\/p>\n
\ncan discuss topics and themes that are\/were important to the playwright
\nand how being a woman influenced their Art in a positive or negative
\nway.<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n
\nand society in terms political, social and religious view of the
\nplaywrights time and era with respect to women\u2019s issues that may have
\ninfluence their art and storytelling. <\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n
\nimpact did the playwright have on the overall public and political
\ndiscourse about topics that are considered women\u2019s issues? Was it
\npositive or negative<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n
