Article Review 5 \u2013 Solid Waste Management or Occupational Health A. Introduction <\/p>\n

The purpose of the article review series is to get you think critically about the environmental and occupational exposure and health effects in secondary literature, that is either a peer-review article or professional paper. No news items are allowed. You are expected to choose your own article to review. Make sure to go over the review expectations (itemized in the \u201cTask to Complete\u201d below) before you decide on the choice of the article. When choosing your article, ensure your search includes some key words likely to help you narrow to the need of the assignment. For example: the review title \u2013 e.g. \u2018solid waste management\u2019, \u2018occupational health\u2019; \u2018injuries\u2019; \u2018vermin\u2019, solid waste vs. ambient air pollution\u2019, \u2018fall in the elderly\u2019, \u2018exposure\u2019; \u2018outcome\u2019; \u2018prevention\u2019; \u2018control\u2019; or other technical words or phrases that will help you to discuss the points highlighted in the instruction below. You are also advised to use the libraries\u2019 search engines (https:\/\/libguides.wku.edu\/publichealth) for peer-review articles that are already purchased by the university. <\/p>\n

This Article Review is focus on either Solid Waste Management OR Occupational Health. You have to decide and focus on one. You SHOULD NOT DO both solid waste management and occupational health.  B. Task to Complete:<\/p>\n

I will be looking for three (3) things when I grade the paper:<\/p>\n

1. Bibliographic information <\/p>\n

\u00b7 Make this the title of your review. The title structure will vary slightly based on the article format chosen. Please refer to the following examples for guidance.  <\/p>\n

i. Peer-review Article: Last Name, First Name. (Year). \u201cTitle of Article\u201d. Title of Journal. Volume (Number): Page spread (e.g. 15-26).<\/p>\n

ii. Technical Report: Name of Agency. (Year). \u201cTitle of Article\u201d. Name of publisher. <\/p>\n

iii. Book Chapter: Last Name, First Name. (Year). \u201cTitle of Chapter\u201d. Title of Book. Editor First Name Last Name. City of Publication: Page spread (e.g. 15-26).<\/p>\n

2. Brief summary of the article. Summarize the main points the author(s) discussed. Be sure to briefly answer the following questions. A sentence or two each will often be adequate. <\/p>\n

\u00b7 What factors affect poor solid waste management, or how does poorly managed solid waste contribute to ambient air pollution, etc. On occupational health, what are the major occupational health injuries and illnesses; which industries or sectors carries the numbers? Be sure to name a at least one condition or disease. <\/p>\n

\u00b7 How can the population be exposed to such contaminants\/pollutants or affected by the hazards? <\/p>\n

\u00b7 How can the effect on the population (or affected individuals) be controlled or minimized?<\/p>\n

3. Detail analysis of the article. This is the most important part of the exercise and most of the mark will be allocated to this section. <\/p>\n

\u00b7 You need to expand on the points discussed in 2 above but in a rather more detail fashion. <\/p>\n

\u00b7 You need to show that you have critically think about the article by arguing out the strengths and limitations of the article. <\/p>\n

\u00b7 Detail analysis of the population effects especially to children\/vulnerable population\/minority (where applicable) <\/p>\n

\u00b7 Discuss the prevention strategies \u2013 poor solid waste management or occupational hazards, and at population levels.  C. Final Product<\/p>\n
