<\/span>I.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>This paper will be an interdisciplinary analysis of one or two poems of your choice. <\/span>Select these poems from works produced or translated into the English Language. <\/span>The easiest choices, of course are poems from our readings, but this still leaves a lot of content open for poem selections, and multi-era selections are allowed. <\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n A.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>Length and Format Requirements<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n 1.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>3-4 Pages<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n 2.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>MLA, APA or Chicago format is acceptable (most students choose MLA)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n 3.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>All papers must be submitted as .doc\/.docx (Microsoft Word) files.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n 4.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>All papers must be submitted in the drop box titled \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Paper 1 Drop Box\u00e2\u20ac\u009d on, or before the specified due date.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n II.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>Process<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n A.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>Select poems that are interesting to you.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n B.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>Select a theme in the poems that is transferable, or has meaning beyond the poems. <\/span>Example:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Contrasting depictions of city life in British Romantic Poetry and American Beat <\/span>Poetry<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n C.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>Make a tentative argument (thesis statement, or claim) that references both the poem and the theme. <\/span>Ex: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Verses 3, 17 and 80 of the Tao Te Ching<\/em> illustrate the philosophy that any government will best achieve its goals by being less authoritarian and more harmonious in its dealings with the people.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
