In this activity, you will interview someone from a previous generation and summarize the information you gathered in a written report, PowerPoint presentation, or video.

  1. Download the Back Then .docword documentor .rtf.
  2. Select someone from a previous generation to interview, preferably a grandparent or someone in that age range.
  3. Ask the appropriate questions from the Back Then document for the person you selected. (Note: No matter the person selected, you will ask the general questions. Decide, based on your interviewee, whether it is appropriate to ask the married people questions or the not been married questions.)
  4. Review the responses to your interview questions. Then, consider your responses to the following questions.
    1. What information surprised you?
    2. What things do you plan to do the same/different than the person you interviewed?
    3. What are the biggest differences when it comes to attitudes, beliefs, and values about money between their generation and yours?
    4. What are the biggest similarities when it comes to attitudes, beliefs, and values about money between their generation and yours?
  5. Report your interview findings and incorporate your responses to the questions in number four above in a written essay of at least five paragraphs (with five sentences per paragraph) or you may present your findings in a more creative way, such as a PowerPoint presentation or a video (submit alternate options to your instructor for approval).
