The Assignment:How do you represent yourself online? How are the groups that you are a part of represented? For this essay, you will choose a social group in which you participate,and discuss how its visual representationin popular culture (especially online culture) has changed over time. You will choose 3–5examples throughout its iconographic (visual) history that you feel best illustrate how the concept/image has evolved. What do the variations on the theme suggest about the cultures/time periods in which they appear? You will be including the images in the body of your paper, so the emphasis here is not on the images themselves, but rather on the cultural context; that is, while you will spend some time describing the images, you will spend less time describing theicon as you will connecting that image to its time and culture.For example, you might discuss the portrayal of professors:1.A painting of Professor Moriarty from Sherlock Holmes2.A video clip from Indiana Jones 3.A negative meme from the internet4.A positive post from Pinterest or InstagramWhat do these four images tell us about the cultures which produced them: their priorities, their beliefs, etc.?
